On a perfect sunny day it was Ambush who started the better creating a few half chances early on and deservedly took the  lead on 20 minutes through Matty Owens who slotted home from 12 yards after good work from Chris Johnson. This setback woke Poplar up and responded with John Russell and Mitch Thompson going close. Poplar were now on top and they equalised on 42 minutes through John Russell after a scramble in the 6 yard box.

In the second half both teams cancelled each other out but both goalkeepers kept there teams in it with fine saves. Penalties was always going to decide the winner of the competition between two very good teams. Poplar's Nick Harrison was a rock at the back  and gained the Man of the Match award. Ambush won on sudden death pens 5-4 which resulted in them winning the competition for the 1st time.

Attendance was 165

Looking forward to 2017-2018

The Stockingford Charity Cup Committee are already busy planning next season’s competition – and if you would like to be involved, please contact the competition secretary Warren Percival. Last season’s competition was oversubscribed and teams were left disappointed. Make sure your application is submitted on time along with your competition fee. With increased interest from other clubs in the surrounding areas, this competition is sure to retain its status as one of the premier competitions in the area.
