Hartshill Sports won the
Tribune Cup for the
first time in their 50th anniversary year. A
goal from Ricci Douglas gave them a 1-0 win over
Frank Parker, who were
trying to win their fourth trophy of the season.
Hartshill were out of
the blocks quicker than Parkers
and had the better of the early stages. Man of the match
Wayne Hadley could have had a hat trick and
Louis John also came close before Ricci Douglas
finally beat the Parkers keeper.
In the second half,
Parkers came back and
had Hartshill under
pressure from the restart. Ian Boyes and Roy Dunkley
both came close to finding the equaliser for
Parkers, while
Hartshill settled for
taking their chances on the break as
Parkers pushed forward.
Parker’s keeper
Mark Roper pulled off two outstanding saves from
Hadley to prevent Hartshill
extending their lead. With time running out and
supporters unable to look,
Hartshill’s defence held out to take the
trophy.
