In a sporting but competitive game, played in freezing conditions Coton settled the quicker, having a goal chalked off for offside after 7 minutes.  They opened the scoring on 12 minutes when Kurt Johnson netted from an acute angle.  Coton were now dominant, and Hill Top conceded a penalty in the 21st minute which was despatched by Kurt Johnson for his second.  Hill Top came under more pressure and Johnson completed his hat trick right on half time.

Coton continued to be on top and looked to be heading for victory, when in 10 glorious minutes, Hill Top levelled to take the game into extra time.  Byron Warmington notched what looked like a consolation on 80 minutes, but with Leput scoring on 85 minutes, and Warden scoring from 30 yards, Hill Tops comeback was complete.  In extra time, Askley Wilks scored from the spot on 110 minutes to secure Hill Tops first League trophy.
